The Renolyde Sultanate
The society of the bainson of the Renolyde Desert is comprised of four primary factions. The Sultanate, led by the Sullam, is the traditional legislative power that makes and repeals laws, The Blades of the Night, led by the Nirolam, is a faction centered around military strength. The Abyssal Seers are a faction that controls the bainson’s religious doctrine. The Imperium is a faction that owns the majority of the influential economic centers in Renolyde.
Sultanate: Primary legislative faction. It is the governing body that makes and enforces laws. The Sultanate is separated into three separate branches.
Executive Branch: This branch’s primary function is to carry out the laws created by the legislative branch. The highest-ranking official of this branch is the Sullam, a bureaucrat with near autonomous power. Every member of this branch must be appointed to their position, but with those decisions left to the Sullam the branch is rife with nepotism. The highest positions of power under the Sullam are the Mustalam, a group of hand selected advisors tasked with carrying out the Sultan’s will through their role as their region’s highest-ranking magistrate.
Legislative Branch: This branch’s primary function is to create the laws that govern the Renolyde Desert. This branch is broken into three smaller entities known as the Miklam, Mahalam and Mintilam respectively. Each group performs the same functions, just on differing scales.
Judicial Branch: The primary purpose of this branch is to resolve legal disputes. This branch settles cases large and small, be it between individuals or between the Executive Branch and Legislative Branch. Since the Sultanate is the recongized primary power in the Renolyde Desert, the Judicial Branch also resolves legal disputes between the four opposing factions.
Blades of the Night: Primary military faction. While the organization was designed to be the law enforcement arm of the Sultanate, in practice it operates as a pseudo military dictatorship. Reports of the blades using excess force and abusing their powers are commonplace in the desert as the Blades work towards turning the Sultanate into a Stratocracy. They operate on every level, from local to national, with local towns and villages serving as the training grounds for the foot soldiers and officers the Blades leadership needs to execute their plans.
Abyssal Seers: A cult so deeply embedded in Renolyde’s history that it serves as the arbiters of the bainson religion. Its doctrine is as extreme as its followers are radical. Priming the world for the return of their deity, Margol, God of Darkness, is their sole purpose and they plan on doing so by casting the world into the abyss. Most bainson know of the Seers principles and texts, but even the most ruthless cut-throat among them is weary of the truly devoted.
The Imperium: The primary economic faction that operates like a mafia. Their goal is to become the solitary power in the Renolyde Desert. The Imperium owns businesses in many industries that act as a legal foothold for their influence. Once established, The Imperium exerts pressure on the rest of the industry through all manner of illegal means, primarily through their control of Lunar Dust production and distribution. The intensity and severity of Lunar Dust makes the drug their primary export to other nations and is the source of their influence in the lands beyond.
